First hour guide
You just got the app. You want a real purchase file working today. Skip optional modules, demo data, and anything labelled advanced.
Warm welcome. No jargon.
Before you start
- Windows PC (10 or 11).
- Installer from the official site: Setup 1.0.2 (the .exe is fine for most people).
- Windows may warn that the app is unsigned. If you trust the download link your firm gave you: More info, then Run anyway.
- Optional later: LibreOffice for nicer PDFs. Skip it for hour one.
1. Install and open
- Double-click Irish-Legal-Toolkit-Setup-1.0.2.exe.
- Finish the installer (current user is fine).
- Open Irish Legal Toolkit from the Start menu.
2. Profile and first-run questions
- Create a solicitor profile (your name is fine).
- Set a PIN you will remember.
- When asked, choose the path for real work (not just exploring), unless you are only training.
- Enter your firm name if prompted.
- If it offers folder browse for exports or data safety, accept the defaults or pick a folder you can find later (Documents is fine).
- Finish until you see Home.
3. Look at the left-hand menu
You should see roughly:
- Home
- Clients
- Calendar
- Tools
- Settings
That is the whole map for today. You will live in Clients and the Client hub.
4. Create your first client
- On Home, click New client (or open Clients and create from there).
- Choose a simple purchase-style file if asked.
- Give it a clear client name (for example Murphy purchase, Main St).
- Create the file.
- You should land on the Client hub.
Free conveyancing tools attach in the background. You do not need to pick sixteen modules.
5. Fill File essentials
On the Client hub, find File essentials (it may be open already).
Fill and save:
- Client name (if not already set)
- Property address
- Purchase or sale price
- Instruction date
- Completion date (even a rough target is fine)
These five feed letters, forms, and later steps. Do this before you wander into tools.
6. Continue this file
- Click Continue this file (or the next-step button the hub shows).
- The app opens the next conveyancing tool (often contract, then searches, and so on).
- Enter whatever you know. Leave blanks if you do not know yet.
- Save when the tool offers save.
- Use the back / hub links to return to the Client hub.
You are not finishing a full sale in hour one. You are proving the path works.
7. Produce one letter
- On the Client hub, find Produce.
- Click Produce letter (or open letters from Produce / Tools if that is what you see).
- Pick a simple template (client progress update or any short letter).
- Generate / preview.
- Export Word or PDF.
- Check it looks sane. Do not send it to a real client without a solicitor reading it.
If export asks for a folder, pick Desktop or Documents for today.
8. Check Calendar
- Click Calendar in the left menu.
- Look for the completion or instruction date you entered.
- If nothing shows, go back to the Client hub, Dates or File essentials, save the date again, then reopen Calendar.
This is your firm diary view. Good enough for hour one.
9. Peek at Completion (optional, two minutes)
- Open your client again.
- Open the Completion tab.
- Notice closing checklist / pack buttons live here, not as a separate app.
- You do not need to build packs today. Just know where they are for closing week.
10. Data safety - sleep better
- Open Settings.
- Find Data safety.
- Confirm mirroring is on (default).
- Click Open in File Explorer if offered.
- You should see a folder like
Documents\Irish Legal Toolkitwith a save log and Current / History / Backups.
Your working copy also sits under your Windows AppData profile. The Documents vault is the friendly mirror you can see without hunting.
11. Honest limits (one minute)
- Practice tool only - not legal advice.
- Not the Law Society.
- No live Revenue ROS filing.
- Conflict and AML screens are checklists / internal search, not magic clearance.
- Calendar ICS export (later) is a file you import; it is not live Outlook sync.
You're done
In the first hour you should have:
- Installed the app
- Created a profile
- Opened a client

- Read the Technical user manual for install detail, data safety, and honesty tables.
- For step-by-step on every tool, use Part B below or the full Tools how-to.
